Make room to move.
Eat Hoop Love is a movement retreat co-curated with hooper and dancer Eshna Kutty. The first edition brought a small group to Bali for a week of hooping, food, exploration and time together. Later, the format travelled to Sri Lanka.
The question
Can learning a movement practice make space for more of yourself?
Eshna brought the practice and the teaching. Experience Co. helped make a place for it to be lived with other people: a group small enough for individual attention, days with both structured sessions and informal jams, and enough shared time for people to feel comfortable trying something unfamiliar.
The retreat welcomed beginners alongside experienced hoopers. That mix mattered. People could learn at their own pace, watch one another find a different rhythm and spend time together beyond the class.
What stayed with me
Play can be a serious design choice. A hoop gave the group a way into movement and expression without asking anyone to arrive as an expert. Food, place and the pauses between sessions were part of the experience too.
This is Eshna's world and her practice. The work was to co-curate a retreat that gave it room to breathe.
